Show Samples of the new ore were tested in Utah's metallurgical laboratory and our metalurgical and design engineers analyzed the problems of revamping the existing concentrator, supplying water and power, locating and constructing the new mill. Employing the new process flow sheet developed by our metallurgists, Utah's design engineering organization completed all detail drawings and speci- fications and worked in a concert with the construction organization in performing the procurement, construction, and test run operations for this major plant addition. Some of the components included in this 1500-ton per day addition were wet grinding, flotation and magnetic separation facilities, additional crushing facilities and a 1500 kw diesel power generating plant. This project - from ore samples to an operating mill in nine months - is a typical example of the results available through Utah's integrated engineering -construction services. The cost of this project was $1,200,000. 21 - Telephone Office Building Office building for Silver Avenue Building Corporation in Albu- querque, New Mexico. Work was performed under, a joint venture between Kitchell-Phillips Contractors, Inc. and Utah, Our share was 50% and the project amounted to about $1, 250, 000. The Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company occupy the building, and Kitchell Phillips did the actual construction work. 22 - First Security Building The First Security Bank of Utah retained Utah to perform all of the supervision, procurement of materials and supplies and construction work for this new twelve story building. This was not an ordinary building lifting its head across Salt Lake City's skyline. It was the first major Utah structure to feature "skin type" design - construction similar to the United Nations Buidling in New York City. "Skin type" emphasizes large glass wall areas and prefabricated metal materials. The completed $3,000,000 structure has approximately 20,000 square feet of plate glass wall area. Exterior walls contain another 52,000 square feet of porcelainized steel ponds - more area than a football playing field. The building's framework contains approximately 900 tons of steel. There are another 100 tons of panel steel and aluminum. |
