The body should be the longest part of your speech. It contains your major ideas. If you spend three minutes on your introduction, a minute and a half on the body, and thirty seconds on the conclusion, your speech will be out of balance. 2. Consider the development of each main point. a. If your main points seem equally important, you should give each point equal emphasis. b. If your main points vary in importance, however, you must adjust your strategy. You might start with the most important point, spending more of your time on it, then present the other points in a descending order of emphasis, according to their importance. c. 3. Alternatively, you might wish to develop you main points in an ascending order of emphasis. The introduction and conclusion should be about equal in length. The total amount of time spent on your introduction and conclusion should be less than the amount spent on the body of your speech. Asa general rule, in a 5-minute presentation, the combined length of the introduction sand conclusion should be about a minute. This leaves four minutes to develop the main points of the message. 10 |
