Show Weber State College Builds for the Future Weber State College has come a long way. It has grown from the Weber Academy to the largest four year college (without a graduate program) in the nation, and it's professors and programs of study include some of the finest. The yearbook staff surveyed students, faculty and staff for their opinions of the best that Weber State has to offer. One of the most important aspects of Weber State College is that students are able to take classes from professors instead of graduate students, teacher assistants, or television courses. Most professors provide individual service at the College, giving students personal attention on projects and assignments. They take a genuine interest in the individual. Personal Service The low student to teacher ratio, coupled with many modern facilities and programs provide students with far more opportunities for hands-on experience and individualized learning than they would find at other colleges and universities. The beauty of the campus is another aspect of Weber State College that students and faculty find appealing. The buildings are modern and well kept. Lawns, fountains, and outdoor benches provide a relaxing atmosphere in which students can study, socialize or just relax and enjoy the beauty of the mountains. New buildings are being planned and constructed to meet the needs of a growing college. Ground breaking for a new business building took place this year. Many Organizations The college offers many opportunities for student involvement. There are large organizations like the Associated Students of Weber State College, the Resident Halls Association, and the Latter-Day Saint Student Association in which students can work in leadership positions, organizing activities for large groups of people. A student may also choose to join a smaller, more select organization such as the Medical Technology Club, French Club or the Professional Accounting Society. There are several fraternal organizations, each with it's own character. International students and students with a particular heritage can form special clubs to study and enjoy their cultures. There are honor societies such as Scholastic Society and Phi Kappa Phi. Some organizations like Signpost, WSC Newspaper, and the Acorn, are designed not only to inform students and to preserve the Weber State College history, but as a training ground for students. Here, they learn practical skills that suppliment their classroom learning. Weber State College provides a variety of organizations for students to learn skills, to serve the campus and community, and to socialize. There are programs that are designed to help students with special problems and concerns. Some of them include the Women's Resource Center, International Student's Association, and Handicapped Students Association. Students especially like the friendly and relaxed atmosphere of Weber State College. |
