Show COACH MARV PETERSON Coach Marv Peterson began his third year as Weber track coach with a young and inexperienced team. There were only three consistent performers and Coach Peterson had to mold many newcomers into shape for the ten scheduled meets. Peterson took over as track coach in 1962 when Ray Rhead retired from coaching. After receiving his Master's Degree at Utah State University, he came to Weber State as Inter-mountain Indian School Co-ordinator. He transferred to the health education department where he is now Director of Intramurals, Cross-country, and an assistant professor, in addition to his track duties. He played guard on the 1951 Weber football team. He also captained the team. While at Weber, Peterson set the ICAC javelin record which stood for 10 years. He served in the Marine Corps for three years. He made the all-Marine football team in 1954. Peterson holds the javelin record of 232'. He posted that record in the all-Marine track meet of 1955. Pole vaulter Jack Spainhower puts his weight into the glass pole. Sprinters John Ostler and Greg Scott get set. Track and Field Dave Trujillo, Wildcat distance man, finished second in BSAC cross-country try last fall. Greg Harrop performs with the javelin. Frank Henderson gives new strength to the shot put. Hurdlers Royal West and Art Larson clear an intermediate hurdle. Prep star, Henry Owens, participated in track before spring football. The three consistent performers from last year - Dave Trujillo, Jack Spainhower, and Ace King - were joined by four juniors, six sophomores, and fifteen freshmen. Trujillo was second in the conference mile last year. Ace King was last year's main point-getter. He holds school records in the broad jump and in the triple jump. Steve Blood headed the list of newcomers. Blood was a hurdler, broad jumper, and javelin competitor. Frank Henderson tossed the shot put. This big freshman placed first in the state high school meet. Brent Miller and Bruce Howard gave support to the distance events. Henry Owens was a frosh sprinter. Greg Harrop threw the javelin. The Wildcats had nine meets schduled with only one home contest.
