This year’s play, “Disraeli,” tells of the period in English history when Disraeli, the great Jewish Prime Minister, was attempting to purchase the Suez canal from Egypt to strengthen England’s hold on India. After many difficulties, brought on by Russia—England’s rival for the supremacy of the seas at that time—he succeeds and makes his queen Empress of India.
