We started to import Browning Automatic Shotguns in 1923. Afterwe had spent considerable effort in building the sale of these arms in this country we found ourselves confronted with a problem of others boot~ legging our guns into this country. in order to avail ourselves of such protection as was afforded under the trade-mark law, we trade marked - the butt plate design of our shotguns, copy of which design is attached heretoe This design was registered October 30, 1928, Trade-Mark 34248671. Registration was effected in the name of Browning Brothers Company, however, on the same date it was registered,a formal assignment was also recorded to Browning Arms Company. We make this explanation so you may not be confused should you investigate this particular trade mark. Our reason for usi g the butt plate design was merely that we were confronted with a situation which required prompt attention.
