Beal Theology IThis course consists of a study of the internal and external evidences of the authenticity of the Book of Mormon. The harmony of the teachings of the Hebrew and Nephite prophets is considered. Throughout the year. Four hours' credit. Theology IIThis course consists of an advanced course in the life of Christ. Talmage's Life of Christ will be used as a text. Throughout the year. Four hours' credit. ENGLISH Prof. Kimball Young, Prof. T. Earl Pardoe English IThis will be primarily a "course of ideas"; it will, however, include a thorough study of the qualities of style and the elements of clearness and strength in composition. Thought stimulating essays will be read, as outlined; special reports will be required on outside reading; and, regular themes, both short and long, will be required as specified. The theme work will lay stress on thought content, and the expression of original ideas; periodic conferences WEBER ACADEMY PAGE 27 will be held, between professor and student. Four periods per week throughout the year. Six hours' credit. English II, (Advanced Dramatic Art)Open to college students only. Takes up play interpretation and fundamental impersonation. Technique of gesture, based on a study of emotional psychology. Masterpieces absorb the greater portion of the course. Each student must learn to impersonate, at least, a one-act play. Five periods per week throughout the year. Seven and one-half hours' credit. English III, (Contemporary Continental Drama)A review of the works and general influence of the most prominent European dramatists. Plays of the following will be discussed: D'Annunzio, Bjorsen, Brieux, Echegaray, Hauptmann, Tehekoff and others. A resume of each author's works will be presented, with reference to their special bearing upon the times. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. First semester. Three hours' credit. English IV, (Contemporary American and English Drama)This course is given to acquaint the student with the great English speaking dramatists and include Barrie, Barker, Fitch, Galsworthy, Jones, Mackaye, Knoblauch, Pinero, Shaw, Thomas, Wilde, Walter and others. This study of the drama is a continuation of the first semester, though may be taken separately. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Second semester. Three hours' credit. English V, (Technique of the Drama)A study in play production, definition of terms, forms of drama and general construction.
