Show PAGE 38 WEBER ACADEMY Advanced StandingStudents presenting approved credits from other high schools or academies will be admitted to advanced standing. GRADUATION Students completing any of the four-year courses will be given diplomas; pupils will be given certificates on completion of the two-year shorthand or bookkeeping courses. Students completing the two-year courses may take part in the commencement exercises, but are not permitted to share in the Senior class exercises nor to wear the official graduating pin. A candidate for graduation from the High School course may be presented with a High School diploma on the earning of sixteen units of credit; three in English, one in mathematics, two in history, two in science or economics, and eight consistent electives. If a student has completed fifteen units of any course with an average grade of 85 percent., he may be graduated, provided the unit not completed does not include English or the professional subjects for which the course stands. Graduation requires passing grades in all courses in theology for which a pupil has been registered. A diploma will be denied a student of defective character or who is in the habit of frequenting pool halls, or of using tobacco or intoxicating liquor. No student will receive credit toward graduation in any study in which percentage of excellence falls below 60 percent.; nor shall any student be graduated who does not attain an average of 75 percent. in all studies included in the course. Students who do not graduate with the class in which they enter will be WEBER ACADEMY PAGE 39 held to the requirements made of the class in which they are finally graduated. Credit is given for work done in other high schools, but at least four units of work must be done in this school. Not more than five units of work in any one year will be accepted toward graduation. A unit represents a year's study in any subject reciting five times a week throughout the year. Two laboratory periods are counted as one recitation period. Credit for one semester only in a subject that continues throughout the year cannot be counted toward graduation. Credit for one year only in a foreign language cannot be counted toward graduation. The recitation periods are forty-five minutes in length. The Academy recognizes quality as well as quantity of work. The student's grade is based on attendance, class recitation, periodic tests, and semester examinations. The amount of credit which is given toward graduation for any subject is determined from the average grade as follows: Average Credit for a Grade Mark Unit Subject 92-100 percent. A 1.2 units 84-91 percent. B 1.1 units 76-83 percent. C 1. units 68-75 percent. D .9 units 60-67 percent. E .8 units In order to receive grades A and B students are required to do extra work sufficient to justify the excess credit. |
