He will be called to active duty at the time of draft call. In the Air Force Reserve a student must have had previous military service to get into this reserve. It will fulfill the Ready Reserve obligation of all other forces. OPTION IV. Enlist in the National Guard. A student must be between the ages of 17 and 18!/2. He must agree to train actively until the age of 28. No active duty with the regular armed force is required although survivor training with the National Guard is necessary. OPTION V. Enlist in one of the Armed Forces. A student may enlist in the Army for 2 years, the Navy for 4 years, and the Coast Guard for 5 years. The Ready Reserve obligation is the difference between the time on active duty and 6 years. Reserve meetings are required for all Ready Reserve programs. OPTION VI. Join an Officer Candidate Program. There are two officer candidate programs, Marine Platoon Leaders Class and the Navy Reserve Officer Corps, available to students at Weber College that are similar to the R.O.T.C. programs; these allow a student to obtain his college degree before entering the officer training program. He must be a member of the reserve. Attractive enlistment opportunities in the Armed Forces are open for those with two years of college. HEALTH SERVICES POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS The Health Service of Weber College has been established for the education and protection of students. The services offered are: (1) medical examination, (2) follow up for the correction of remediable defects, and (3) adequate care in case of accidents and sudden illness. A medical examination shall be required of every student upon his initial entrance to Weber College. Failure to satisfy this requirement may cause the student to be dropped from the college. The College physician shall outline and administer the physical examination with the aid of the school nurse, the chairman of the health and physical education division, and others whom he may need. A student may have the medical examination given at the regularly scheduled time by the college physician or he may, at his own expense, have his family physician give the examination and record it on the Weber College Medical Examination Record Cards. The school physician will evaluate the results of all medical examinations for the guidance and protection of the students and the college. The school physician shall be the final judge of a student's physical fitness for participation in activities and for the use of college facilities. THE HOUSING SERVICE An important factor in a student's success in accomplishing the programs he elects to follow lies in the environment in which he studies and finds his recreation, in his personal living quarters, as well as in his school. The College provides services for personal housing as follows: 1. Supervisory services of the Dean of Women and the Dean of Men for all living arrangements of out-of-town students. 2. Bertha Eccles Hall is open to all women students of the college who are in full-time enrollment. Linen and bedding are furnished by the College. (Cost, $15.00 a month). 3. Information regarding board and room and light housekeeping in private homes in the City. BUILDING AND GROUNDS SERVICE For the student's class work and activities the College provides an adequate physical plant and a buildings and grounds staff which maintain an environment that is comfortable, healthful, and wholesome. INSTRUCTIONAL AIDS The College Library The College Library provides a rich store of materials especially selected to serve students and faculty who are following the curriculum. The collection, which is constantly growing in cultural value, includes more than 27,000 volumes in addition to a working library of pamphlets, documents, and bibliographical aids. The College, through its library service, subscribes to 203 literary, scientific, and educational periodicals, as well as to state and national newspapers. Weber College recently acquired the Howell Library of approximately 12,000 volumes. This library, which was willed to the College by the late Judge James A. Howell, includes American and English novels written before 1900. The Library is located on the second floor of the Physical Science Building. The Library is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., except Friday when it closes at 5 p.m. On Saturdays it is open from 9:00 a.m. until 12 o'clock noon. It is closed on Sundays and holidays when the school is not in session. Bureau of Audio-Visial Aids The College maintains an Audio-Visual Aids Bureau which administers the procurement, distribution, maintenance and utilization of audio-visual teaching materials and equipment. The Bureau is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. Request for evening service may be made directly to the Bureau.
