2. Social Psychology. The growth and development of human personality and behavior as a result of social interaction is the major thesis of this course. Personality theories are evaluated. Crime, delinquency, poverty, unemployment, illness, accidents, the physically and mentally handicapped, race prejudice, population, immigration, and war are some of the problems studied. Major topics studied are: historical background, marriage customs, courtship, marriage prediction tests and inter-personal relationships. Community resources such as religious, educational, health, welfare, recreational and legal institutions are studied as they contribute to successful family living and the social development of the child. The qualifications needed for career social work as well as some basic principles and objectives of social work will be presented. Field trips to welfare institutions will be taken. Deals with the social problems of the working situation, the social organization of the plant, and the social adjustments of the worker in industry, the community, and society. Three quarter hours.
