Show 26 WEBER COLLEGE - OGDEN, UTAH GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS Weber College grants the title of Associate of Arts or the title of Associate of Science, and a Certificate of Completion. Students who expect to be graduated should arrange their programs to conform with the requirements for one of these titles. Requirements for the title of Associate of Arts or the title of Associate of Science are as follows: Completion of at least ninety quarter hours of approved college work, exclusive of physical education activities. The college work must include: 1. English 1, 2, 3 (To be taken during the freshman year.) 2. Orientation (To be taken during the freshman year.) 3. Health Education 1 or 2 and three quarters of selected physical education activities. (To be taken during the freshman year.) 4. A total of at least twelve quarter hours from each of the following divisions: Humanities: Art, English, Foreign Languages, Music and Speech. A total of sixteen quarter hours is required from this Division, twelve hours of which must be from English, Foreign Languages, or Speech. (English 1, 2, and 3 may be counted within these twelve hours.) Life Sciences: Agriculture, Bacteriology, Biology, Botany, Forestry, Home Economics, Nursing, Physiology, and Zoology. (Agriculture, Forestry, Home Economics, and Nursing courses not having biological content will not be counted toward fulfilling requirements in this group.) Mathematics and Physical Sciences: Chemistry, Civil Pilot Training, Engineering, Geography, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, and Radio. (Civil Pilot Training, Engineering, and Radio courses will not be counted toward fulfilling requirements in this group.) Social Sciences: Economics, Education, History, Orientation, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. (Education and Orientation courses will not be counted toward fulfilling requirements in this group.) The titles of Associate of Arts and Associate of Science are designed for college transfer students. Candidates for the title of Associate of Arts must have a minimum of twenty-five quarter hours of one foreign language or its equivalent. (Three high school units of one and the same language satisfy foreign language requirements.) All students contemplating work beyond the bachelor's degree should complete the foreign language requirements in their lower division work. It is recommended that students pursuing a major in the Humanities qualify for the title of Associate of Arts. A total of four quarter hours of laboratory work must be completed in the Life Sciences or the Physical Sciences, or in both. Candidates for the title of Associate of Arts or the title of Associate of Science who desire training leading to specialization in Agriculture, Business, Dentistry, Education, Engineering, Forestry, Home Economics, Law, Medicine, Nursing, and Social Work will find their respective curricula listed on the bellows-fold insert sheet. WEBER COLLEGE - OGDEN, UTAH 27 Requirements for the Certificate of Completion are as follows: Completion of at least ninety quarter hours of approved work, exclusive of physical education activities. Three quarters of selected physical education activities. (To be taken during the freshman year.) 4. The successful completion of the two-year terminal course as outlined in the Catalogue, or a two-year course as outlined by the Dean of Student Personnel. The Dean has the authority to modify the above graduation requirements according to the needs of the individual. In addition to the above requirements, candidates for the Certificate of Completion in the trades must successfully pass the examinations as designated by the Trade Advisory Committee. The Certificate of Completion is designed for students who desire to complete their formal education at the close of the second college year. Grades, Grade Points, and Residence Before a student can become a candidate for graduation, his scholastic record must show that he has satisfied the requirements for entrance, that he can fulfill all the requirements for graduation on the completion of the course for which he is registered, and that he has an average of not less than C, a ratio of at least 1.00, in all his college work. The grading system consists of four passing grades: A, B, C, D; failure: E; incomplete: 1; withdrawn passing: W.P.; withdrawn failing: W.F. Exceptional accomplishment is denoted by the grade of A; superior, B; average, C; and inferior, D. When a student is dropped from a class because of inferior work or excessive absences, a final mark of E is recorded. Grade points or honor points are assigned as follows: Each hour of A grade counts three points; B grade, two points; C grade, one point; D grade, no point; and E grade, minus one point. The total of honor points thus obtained is divided by the total hours registered. A ratio of 2.50 represents honors. A student must make a ratio of at least 1.0 for graduation. Before a student can become a candidate for graduation, he must have completed thirty quarter hours of residence work at Weber College. All candidates for graduation are required to be present at the Commencement Exercises. Any exceptions to these requirements are made by the President. Training Record Card A Training Record Card is issued to Trade Preparatory Students when they leave school for placement on a job. This card indicates the units of work which have been successfully completed by the student. Certificate of Preparatory Training A Certificate of Preparatory Training is issued to vocational students who have completed a prescribed training program. The Training Record Card and the Certificate of Preparatory Training are issued in recognition of training and accomplishment. They do not indicate graduation. |
