Description The Farming Artifact category of the Harrisville Virtual History Museum contains farm implements and buildings.
Biographical/Historical Note A yoke used between a pair of oxen to enable them to pull together on a load. This yoke is thought to have been owned by William Warren Taylor who on February 8, 1839, along with other faithful Later-day Saints, was expelled from his home in the state of Missouri by order of Bevernor Lilburn W. Boggs. He left 1000 bushels of corn in a crib for which he recieved an old neck yoke, receiving nothing in payment for his farm and improvements. He died as a result of typhoid fever September 9, 1839, brought on by the hardships endured through the forced journety. The yoke was likely used by his family who crossed the plains and settled Harrisville. (ref "coneto Creek Taylors", by Jesse L. Warner)
