Show THE CLASSICUM 31 LANGUAGE Emma Chesney Parlez-vous Francais? Sprechen Sie Deutsch? ¿ Habla ud. Espanol? Loquerisne Latine? Do you like mystery? If so, the mystery of acquiring a second language ought to appeal to you. Have you a desire to travel in foreign countries? How greatly your pleasure will be increased if you understand in part what these interesting foreigners are saying, if you can read their newspapers, the signs along the streets and the menus in the hotels. Perhaps you have a longing to pursue scientific studies. Courses begun in French and German, and carried on later in College or University, are not only an advantage, but even a necessity. You prefer commercial lines? Then Spanish will make an appeal to you. Are you interested in your own English language with its wealth of words, with their involved meanings? Are you thinking of following one of the pro¬fessions—law or medicine? Then you need the help of Latin, If you would like to be a librarian in some large college or university, study all three Modern Languages—French, German, Spanish, beginning two of them in your high school course. "Who knows not a foreign language knows nothing of his own." MUSIC DEPARTMENT Glen L. Hansen Music hath charms! The efforts of the Music Department of Ogden High School are directed to a study and performance of a high standard of music. The Glee Clubs, boys and girls, study only the very finest type of choral work, with emphasis on intensive vocal drill. The crowning achievement is the production of a standard opera each year. An acapella chorus represents the high ideals we strive to maintain. The R. O. T. C. Band offers many advantages for instrumental study. State contest work is one of many activities the band engages in. Concerts and parades are regular features of band work. Ogden High's Orchestra is in a class all its own. Only the very finest music and instumentation are allowed. The orchestra approaches symphonic ideals and work. A thorough course in Harmony completes a most interesting and instruc¬tive curriculum of music. |
