Show 16 ACORN at Student Body meeting on Wednesday, November 19th. Miss Hoiberg rendered three vocal selections and Miss Bassett gave several readings. On Wednesday, November 26th, Mrs. Jeannette Morrell read a Thanksgiving story to the students in their morning exercises. The Staff The entire Acorn Staff forgot the "work and grief" of their first edition long enough to entertain their friends at a party Monday evening, November 24th. The amusement committee entertained their guests in the early evening with musical selections, games and dances. After the program a luncheon of hamburger-onion sandwiches, pumpkin and mince pie, olives, pickles and apple cider was served, a la cafeteria. On December 18th the staff gave a successful matinee. Several more new matches were made, namely: Jesse Heslop and Zella Malan Ammon Bartholomew and Susie Jacobs, Ellen Scowcroft and Warren Hussey, and Arthur Grix and Delia Terry. It is sincerely hoped that all the matinees hereafter will yield such "lovely" results. Senior Notes Seniors, lift up your hands and shout for joy. We have at last awakened to the fact that the basketball pennant is coming our way. The boys are practising with a vim every night which will undoubtedly bring the pennant home. Again Seniors: The debating tryouts are near at hand. We have some of our debators with us again and before leaving Weber we want to see a '14 engraved on the cup. Vera Tracy, a Senior, entertained the members of the class at her home on Tuesday evening, December 2, 1913. The program for the evening included some of the musical talent of the class. An enjoyable evening was the verdict of everyone present. The Senior Dancing Party given on December 12th was the greatest social event that has been given this year. The artistic decorations were in perfect harmony with the season. The scheme was carried out in green, evergreens and palms being used. The floor was in a perfect condition, too. This was an added feature. Junior Class Notes November the 12th was an eventful day for the Juniors. On that date our basketball team succeeded in defeating the Seniors in the last ACORN 17 game of the first series. This gives them first place among the class teams, in the school at the present time. We are very proud of our basketball boys and of the score they made for us at the game. If you notice how many of the Junior boys have made the school team, it will show you that the Juniors sure are the ones that produce the athletic stars. The evening of November 12th will be remembered by us as the night of our first class party of our Junior year. We met at eight o'clock, and the evening was started with much merriment caused by the peculiar portrayal of many different characters represented by our class members. The Nichols orchestra furnished an exceptionally good dance program of twenty numbers, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. While the refreshments were being served two or three were played, which kept everyone laughing. When we said, "Good-Night," everyone could truly say that they had had an enjoyable time. We were successful in winning the twenty dollar prize, given by the Lecutre Course Committee for selling the most tickets, this shows we were not dead. January 9 is going to be a red letter day on the calendar, for that night the Juniors are going to give the best dancing party of the year. We are not going to say much about debating, but do things. Sophomore Notes The first Sophomore class party was given in the school auditorium on November 3. In the first part of the evening different games were played and the latter part was devoted to dancing. During an intermission delicious refreshments were served. It was considered the most up-to-date class party given this year and everyone who attended had the "time of their life." Freshmen Notes The Freshmen had their first party on November 17th. It proved to be a very successful event. Most of the evening was spent in dancing, after which ice cream, punch and a delicious luncheon was served. Joseph Smith, the class athletic manager, is taking steps to organize a basketball team. With all the promising material, Smith promises to give the other teams a "rub." After mid year the debating team for the year will be selected. The entire class wishes everybody a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. |
