Show ATHLETICS Juniors Win the Class Series The last game of the class series, played between the Juniors and Seniors, was won by the Juniors by a score of 38 to 15. The first half was fast and ended with the Juniors in the lead. Through the rest of the game the work of the fast Junior forwards was such that the Seniors were unable to overcome the lead. The Team After the class series had been played and a careful consideration was given each of the many candidates for a position on the school team, the following were chosen: As forwards, Belnap, Bassett, Layman and Wilde. All of these men are fast and heady and will make opposing guards "go some" to hold them down. At center Richards proved to be the best. He is a little awkward now, but we believe he will develop into a good man. As guards, Ferrin, Herbert and Harris were chosen. These should be able "to hold their own" with any team. Weber is very fortunate in having a large number of men such as Millar, Monson, Bingham, Grix, Cy Ferrin and Mecham to make a good second team. These will play in the City League which will be organized in the near future. Volney Belnap was elected captain of the team for the season of 1913-14, and should make a good leader. He is popular among the other players and is very active in athletic work. The Alumni Game The first game of the season was played between the Alumni and Weber, in the latter's gymnasium, November 21, 1913, resulted in the first victory for Weber. The game was fast and interesting from beginning to end. Both teams played ball, and all through the game the passing was brilliant. The Alumni gained a lead of seven points. The first half ended 22 to 14 for the Alumni. Between the halves, Coach Watson gave the players a little coaching and made some changes in the line-up. The team came back with renewed determination. During the second half the team played fast ball, outplaying the Alumni quintet. In the second half the Alumni scored only twelve points, while the school team made twenty-four, making the final score 34 to 38 in favor of Weber. ACORN 19 Line-up: WEBER. ALUMNI. Belnap, Wilde L.
