Show 11 ACORN poured out his story in a voice filled with misery and sorrow. She implored him to forget his troubles and live only in the glorious brilliancy of the future. Jack looked earnestly into her tear-dimmed eyes and answered, "I will try to live it all down, though I can never forget. But I have repented, and that Repentance begins with a capital 'R." BERN ICE SEAMAN, '16. Oh! the boys of Weber A. Are all sports, they say, But when a school dance is nigh These boys do act so shy. When Irene proposed a plan That every maid and man, Should be present at the dance The boys did glare askance. Then the basket full was passed With names of every lass Oh! the boys how they did shake When the news they had to break. When the boys some names did draw Of the girls they never saw, They only laughed and said Let her stay home in bed. Now that lovely dance is past The boys are safe at last, For 'tis but a few weeks more Then they'll have a chance to snore. If the boys of Weber A. Are all sports, as they say, When a dance is drawing nigh Why should they act so shy? THE ACORN "KEEP OUT" THIS IS OUR BUSY DAY EDITORIAL Christmas Greetings It has been said that a man's wishes for his friends influence to a greater or less degree his aspect of life. If a friend knows that we wish him well in all probability he will appreciate our wishes by adding increased effort to his work. Another writer has said, "We all know that the sun is shining but we all long for its glow and warmth." We may know that our friends wish us well, but we often long for an expression of those wishes. So the Acorn Staff, in accordance with that spirit, extend to the Faculty, the Student Body, and our patrons our sincere wishes for a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. The Devil's Right Hand Man Once upon a time four devils who were new at the business, applied to Lucifer, the chief of devils, for positions. Lucifer asked each one how he would proceed to bring more Weber students to hell if he were given the position. The first one said: "I shall teach them to smoke and drink." The second exclaimed: "I shall teach them to steal!" The third declared he would lead them into the pool halls, but the fourth, the wisest of them all, said: "I shall cause them to put off until tomorrow what they should be doing today!" "The job is yours," replied Lucifer. "I have never heard a better plan!" Well, this same little devil came to school and made friends with a student and persuaded him to quit studying so hard just before the holidays, "because," he explained, "there will be plenty of time for study during the holidays." He got hold of the members of the basketball team and told them that they could eat all the candy they wished and remain out at night just as late as their young ladies would stay with them. "Because," he said, "there will be plenty of time after the holidays to go to bed early and diet so that you will be in excellent condition for the league." |
