Show 17 ACORN who have received the most training have been successful in gaining places on the school team, but with Blair, Farr, Beveridge, Berrett and Minson we hope to give the main team a good fight to retain their places. Another way in which our class will show its good work is in debating. The class possesses a great deal of talent in this line. There will be a close contest for places on the class team but we hope to obtain the best material. Next week the Seniors will take charge of Devotional. The one thing that they are going to try to do, is to create a real devotional spirit. A splendid program has been outlined and we hope to meet the approval of our friends, the Faculty and the Juniors. Junior Notes The Class of '17 is coming to its own. In the athletic contests that have been held so far the Junior boys have proved their staying qualities. Two of our boys have been chosen to play on the school team, and though they are substitutes they have had to exercise their skill to gain such positions. In our last report we omitted giving a list of our officers. They are as follows: Joseph Smith President. Josephine Shorten Vice President. Lamont Poulter Secretary and Treasurer. Cedenia Bingham Debating Manager. Carl Critchlow Athletic Manager. Elwood Winters Yell Master. Elda Ririe Acorn Reporter. We have had many good times in the past. An instance of this was the Junior Thanksgiving ball. This was one of the largest dances of the season, and we thank everyone who came and hope they thoroughly enjoyed the evening. With the approach of Christmas the Junior class wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Sophomore Doings This year the Sophomores have one of the mightiest basketball teams in the school. So far they have played four games, three of which they have won. According to basketball critics in the school, and since the elimination of all players on the first team, the Sophs ACORN 18 have a good chance of carrying off the school championship. In the story contest in the last Acorn, Miss Vera Hinckley, one of our classmates, was awarded second prize. We are proud of her and hope that next time our class will be awarded both prizes. The Sophomore class is very well organized this year. Every Thursday night we hold a meeting here at school, the purpose of which is to discuss plans for social functions and all other business pertaining to the class. Freshman Notes Our program, which was furnished in Devotional, was enthusiastically received by the Student Body. The program, which was carried out through the week consisted of the following numbers: Reading Fawn Wilson. Reading Ruth Sears. Vocal Solo Irene Wright. Piano Solo Leah Bingham. Speech James Leishman. Piano Solo Josephine Volker. Piano Solo Grace Stone. Reading Grace Bagley. Our basketball team is doing fine work this year, and it was a great surprise to many of the students to find out that our class contained so much excellent material. The Freshmen are loyal supporters of the Purple and White and we show our loyalty by attending the lectures, dances and all other Student Body activities. We are getting our training while we are young so that when we are Seniors (?) we may be worthy of the title. Answer to A Mistake Our thanks to the student, Who wrote the sad refrain In which he took we Freshmen For a field of waving grain. It must have cost an effort, From such a feeble brain, And we hope he will recover To write us one again. |
