Show SCHOOL NOTES Assembly Happenings The Thanksgiving program which was given in Devotional on November 24, was enthusiastically received by the students and visitors in attendance. The selections given by Bro. Charley Woods from "The Norsk Nightingale" were thoroughly enjoyed by all. Prof. Wilson gave a Thanksgiving talk and Adella Warner gave the reading, "When the Frost is on the Pumpkin." The music department of Weber had a chance to show the work they have been doing so far this year, by a program which they gave in Devotional to an appreciative body of students and friends. Students in violin, piano and voice training, gave their selections very ably. On December 1, Dr. House spoke to the Student Body on "The Psychology of Success." His lecture was very entertaining as well as instructive and everyone in attendance received some new idea upon which to concentrate their thought. In Devotional, on December 2, the students had a basketball rally, to stir up enthusiasm for the basketball games to be played that night at Preston, and the following night at Logan. Although our boys were defeated in both games, we are not discouraged and we are hopeful of winning the remaining games. Our boys are working hard every night to keep in "tip top" condition, and with the help of the Student Body, on the side lines, Weber is sure of many victories. Professor Hinckley, the principal of the Industrial School, gave a talk to the students on "Choosing a Vocation." The students are well acquainted with Prof. Hinckley, although not through any personal dealing with him, and he is always a welcome visitor at our school. On Monday morning, December 6, the students were called together in a general assembly to hear Apostle Grant speak. Brothers Manning and Dixon sang a duet, after which Apostle Grant gave a very excellent talk which he made entertaining by relating experiences from his own life to illustrate his theme. The Seniors took charge of the Devotional exercises last week and the students had an opportunity to see what talent the class contains. On Wednesday morning, a major program was given by this ACORN 16 class and the students seemed to approve of the work of their older and more experienced schoolmates. lecture Course The Cavalier Opera Company appeared on November 16. The company was composed of four ladies and three gentlemen, all of whom rendered their parts in a very pleasing way. On the night of December 3, Albert Wiggam gave a scientific lecture on "Eugenics and Heredity." He told the red-haired people why their hair was not black, and many other interesting new things. Juniors' Thanksgiving Ball One of the enjoyable social functions of the season was held November 20, under the auspicies of the Junior Class. The auditorium was decorated in the class colors, gold and green. The orchestra was hidden behind cornstalks and played music which induced the large crowd to have a most enjoyable time. Between the dances the guests betook themselves to the booths in the rear of the hall, where they were served with delicious refreshments. Senior Aspirations A class party under the direction of President Brewer, Miss Browning and Brother Dixon, was enjoyed by a majority of the members of the Senior class. Of all the events so far this year, this was the opportunity for displaying the real live wires. The girls refused to come "singly" or "in groups," so the boys were expected to provide sufficient escort for their classmates. Many of the boys displayed their power to adapt themselves to conditions but the proverbial number of "stags" lined the sides of the hall. Dancing, games and a light lunch were thoroughly enjoyed by all. Much credit is due President Brewer, Miss Browning and Brother Dixon for their never-failing work and enthusiasm. Another factor designed to foster the class spirit evident in our class, is the class meeting, to be held every two weeks on Thursday evening. Class business is to be discussed, a program rendered and a dancing lesson given. The basketball season is now in full swing in our school. An inter-class schedule has been arranged that is to be continued indefinitely. So far the Seniors have been infallible, being victorious over every class even though working under a great disadvantage, as the boys |
