Show ORGANIZATIONS The Public Service Bureau The Public Service Bureau is an organization designed to provide a means for the students of the Weber Academy to get practical experience in connection with their work, to co-operate with the church and city, to promote any civic movement, and to boost for the school as a whole. Although a student may have completed a four-year course at a high school, he may be unable to progress in the business of the world, because he may know nothing concerning the real application of his art or business. One of the purposes of the Public Service Bureau is to provide a remedy for this by supplying the student, with opportunities to learn by the best method of all, which is the real execution of his work. The association intends to furnish programs for all assemblies, present lessons in the meetings of any organization and assist in entertainments under the direction of the ward. It means to co-operate with the city officials by supporting any civic ordinance that will make for a cleaner and better Ogden. They mean to assist in the promotion of any national or state question. The association not only helps the student in the fore-mentioned ways, but provides a way to enable students to attend school who find it necessary to work at the same time. Moreover, the school itself becomes popular, and gets the name of "the school where the students get actual experience." Many students will be attracted to our school in this way, because those who wish an active part in life will see the many opportunities afforded by a school with a Public Service Bureau. The organization of the association is broad and has representatives from all the departments of the school. It has been organized as follows : President Douglass Leishman. Vice President Ernest Wilkinson. Secretary and Treasurer Elwood Winters. Advisor David J. Wilson. Program Committee Chairman Irene Scoville. Music Department Gladys Peterson. Public Speaking Department Ben Young. Declamation Department Adella Warner. ACORN 20 Entertainment Committee Chairman Alta Nielsen. Publicity Bureau Chairman Douglass Leishman. Efficiency Committee Chairman Ernest Wilkinson. Athletic Committee Chairman Ray Bassett. Employment Agency Chairman Ezra Chandler. Assistant Vera Bitton. Other departments will be added as the work of the agency of the association grows. The opportunities of the association are unlimited ,and if the entire Student Body will continue to show a willingness to boost and co-operate with it, making it a working unit, the Public Service Bureau will grow to be one of the most active and most beneficial organizations in the school. Webers Band The Weber Band is at the beginning of a red letter year and already several practices have been held. Professor Nichols, our able leader, is assured of success. The services of Critchlow and Smeding have been secured for the basses. We are going to take part in all school activities and show Weber what a "lot" of eminent musicians she has in her school. The Home Economics Club The Home Economics Club was organized by the Domestic Arts and Science Girls, with Pearl Theurer as president, Mary Campbell as secretary and treasurer, and a refreshment and program committee with one member from each class. A meeting was held on November 4th. Some business was attended to, then the members adjourned to the kitchen to indulge in a taffy feast. An enjoyable time was spent by all. The club will give a dime social on December 3rd. Everybody come! The German Club The students who are taking German this year met in an assembly last week and organized a club. Officers were elected as follows: President, Glendon Cordon; Vice President, Bernice Seaman; and Secretary and Treasurer, Ray Bassett. We are going to have a rousing good time this year and start something as the really true Germans have done, only we are going to let Peace reign in our organization. Gluck Auf. |
