Show Railroad building Although the Utah Construction Company focused first on improving existing railroad lines, in 1905 it secured the contract for the 942-mile Western Pacific Railroad between Oroville, California and Salt Lake City. Gaining the contract was a major coup, accomplished only through the personal guarantee of David Eccles and other financial leaders. The rugged landscape, which would make Feather Route especially scenic, posed complex engineering and construction problems, including spanning the famous 75-mile Feather River Gorge. Shown is the Willow Creek Bridge in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. |
