Show Building the Hoover Dam Utah Construction's impetus to bid on building the Hoover Dam began in a San Francisco hospital room where William H. Wattis lay ill with cancer. Director Marriner Eccles urged Wattis to reconsider bidding on the project. As a result, Wattis became president of the Syndicate Group, rooted in an earlier alliance with Morrison-Knudsen of Boise, Idaho. The Syndicate also involved Frank T. Crowe, a former general superintendent for the federal Bureau of Reclamation. Henceforth many Utah Construction projects would be undertaken as joint ventures. Opposite, Edmund 0. Wattis confers on site with H. W. Morrison of Morrison-Knudsen Company. |
