Discussion of the basic principles of nutrition and the present day problems in nutrition. A study of management principles, including the buying of household equipment, planning of work schedules, efficient management of time, and budgeting of money. Three quarter hours. The course is planned to help the student understand and use the principles and elements of art in the decoration of the home; to gain information in the selection and purchasing of carpets, window decorations, furniture, accessories and appliances for their future home. Three quarter hours. Autumn, Winter. Lehner 17. Creative Skills in Home Decoration. A laboratory course designed to give students skills in making, remodeling, and caring for home furnishings. Construction of lamp shades, slip covers, and upholstering furniture. Two quarter hours. Spring. Mumford 20. Personal Development. Designed for the college girl. Self- improvement in personality, voice, poise, dress; beauty aids, weight control, social etiquette. Two quarter hours. Autumn, Spring. Lehner 21. Clothing the College Girl. A basic course in clothing construction techniques in which emphasis is placed upon suitability, becomingness, design. Three quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Mumford 22. Clothing Selection and Construction. Pattern study, on fitting, altering, and techniques of design. A garment will be constructed from a basic pattern. Prerequisite: Home Economics 21. Three quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Mumford 23. Family Clothing. A study of practical problems in selection and construction of children's clothing and care including renovation of clothing. Three quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Mumford 24. Textiles. Fibers, yarns, fabrics, and finishes as they relate to the homemaker's problems of buying, use, and care. Three quarter hours. Designed to give the student an understanding of mother and baby care with experience in handling the baby and developing simple nursing techniques in the family situation. Two quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Doss 33. Preparation for Marriage and Family Life. Designed to help men and women students understand attitudes and relationships in marriage and to develop an appreciation for enriched family life. Includes a study of personality adjustments in marriage, preparation for parenthood and parent-child relationships. Three quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Lehner 35. Child Development. (Open to all college men and women.) Designed to develop an understanding of human behavior and relationships. Discussions on child growth. Observation of children in the Nursery School. Four quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Lehner, Kunz 36. Experience with Children. Students have an opportunity to work in the Nursery School with children age 2'/2 to 5. Understanding children by working with them. Evaluation method. Nursery School arranged. Prerequisite: Home Economics 35. Two-four quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Kunz 37. Child Development Laboratory. (Prerequisite: Enrollment of a child in the Nursery School and concurrent enrollment in Home Economics 38.) A two-hour laboratory required each week. Parents observe, participate, and assist in directed activities of the pre-school child. Credit may be arranged. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Kunz 38. Parent Education. The Pre-School Child. Prerequisite: Enrollment of a child in the Nursery School. The study of the physical, social, and emotional development of the pre-school child. This course includes lectures, demonstration, and films. Credit may be arranged. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Kunz 60. Clothing Construction. An adult course in clothing construction skills and techniques. Instruction is largely individual and basic problems center around individual needs, interests, and ability. One quarter hour. Stewart Weber College is one of the eight pilot schools chosen to participate in the Cooperative Research Project in Junior and Community College Education for Nursing a project sponsored by Teachers College, Columbia University. In a college environment the student in nursing enjoys the many cultural and social opportunities available to other students, and at the same time learn the skills and judgment needed in nursing. Successful completion of this program entitles the graduate to the Associate of Science title from Weber College and makes her eligible to write the state examinations for the Registered Professional Nurse License. |
