Show 11 ACORN Malcolm's Marriage One day at school we missed the face Of winsome Watson; and in his place An empty seat, not e'en a trace Was found from busy Ridges. "He's out of town, '11 return next day." The wary Bishop had said his say. We begged and pumped till close of day To locate absent Watson. At last he said, "Why don't you know That Watson's getting married?" so 'Twas then the ill wind 'gan to blow That made poor Male unhappy. The Seniors gathered all their class And bought some rice, a great big mass. And tried to catch him on the grass, But he scampered into Weber. At Devotion hour Male took his place With a smile extending o'er his face That showed the school he'd fight or race This third day after marriage. The program stopped, the Seniors rose, The bridegroom paled e'en to his nose As showers of rice each Senior throws. Good luck to Malcolm Watson. Manning and Bind got most, 'tis true. To Professor Bind the "shower" was new, Barker hastily left his pew To escape the Hying missiles. Male held his head behind his book While Lind gave us a reproachful look, For half the rice the teachers took, And Watson got off easy. ACORN 12 "A speech!" the students cried, a speech! He dodged the rice, "Lets make him preach!" Said Watson then, "I've said my speech, For I have asked her father." We took our Principal's advice, And did not throw a bit more rice. O! may Male's lovely wife be nice Forever, to her Watson. To The Brooklet Dear little brooklet singing your song, As you wind in among the trees, As I watch your bubbling waters flow, My own life comes back to me. Here it flows in a slow sad stream, There bubbles up with the joys that God sends. As your murmuring waters will sink in the ground, My own life will come to an end. But dear little brook, did you ever know, Your waters are not lost when they sink? But will come up some day in the form of a spring, And give to some traveler, a drink. And so with my own life as it is with yours, I too will go for a while But will live again in that Great Beyond, Where everyone sings and smiles. |
