Ogden 1934-35 TWELVTH Held — April 25, 1935 — Weber County Cup: Ogden - Team: Robert Buswell - Jane Davis Winners: Cook — 1st Box Elder Jane Davis — 2nd Ogden 1935-36 OGDEN — Davis county high school students won the J. S. Lewis trophy in the annual oratory con¬test Thursday at Ogden high school. Byron Hampton won first place with "The League of Death," and Lorraine Clark, of Davis high school, spoke on "The Value of Time," to win second place. Ogden high school speakers finished in third and fourth places. 13th Held: May 6, 1936 - Ogden High Cup: Davis County Winner: Davis County LEWIS SPEECH TROPHY GAINED BY OGDEN HIGH April 25 - 1935 Box Elder Girl Receives Highest Honors In Individual Class Ogden High school won the Lewis cup, emblematic of oratorical su¬premacy, Thursday night in Weber County High school hall in an an¬nual contest participated in by Box Elder, Davis, Weber and Ogden High schools. The winning school was repre¬sented by Jane Davis, who spoke on "Security for the Unemployed," and Robert Buswell whose subject was "The Salesmen of Mars." In the individual awards Betty Nelson of Box Elder won first place with her speech, "Capitalizing on Patriotism," and received the Lewis award of a fine gold watch. A gold pin was awarded to Miss Jane Davis of Ogden High school, the second place winner. Other students who took part were: Weber—Norma Jensen, "Peace," and Wallace Warren, "World Peace Through Education." Davis—Genevieve Nalder, "Amer¬ica Needs Men," and Henry Thornley, "Courage of the Commonplace." Box Elder—Boid Hopkins, "The People and Politics." Wallace Vickers, of the Utah State Agricultural college, Logan, was judge. |
