Show PAGE 54 WEBER ACADEMY Tracy Y. Cannon Has been one of Utah's best known music teachers since he began teaching the piano here. His musical education was obtained in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Berlin and Paris, where he studied under such famous musicians as Albert A. Stanley, Alberto Jonas and Alexander Guilmant and others. Mr. Cannon has taught in Ogden for a number of years, and has successfully presented many pupils in recitals. He is assistant organist of the Tabernacle in Salt Lake City, and director of the "Pioneer Stake Choisters', and Organists' Association." Romania Hyde Miss Hyde began her musical studies under Mr. George E. Skelton, one of Utah's noted violin instructors, after which she spent two and one-half years in hard study under Herr Issay Barmas of Berlin, one of Russia's greatest masters, and a violinist of international fame. She also studied with Leopold Lichtenberg of New York City. Miss Hyde won the gold medal at the Chautauqua of 1907, and at the National Eisteddfod of 1911, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She has for the last ten years conducted most successfully several musical organizations, of which the Romania Hyde Quartette was acknowledged to be the leading ladies' string quartette in the Intermountain States, filling engagements for Chautauqua work in San Francisco, Klamath Falls in Oregon; also in Ogden. She had the distinction of appearing with the Royal Quartette in Cassel, Germany. And she also WEBER ACADEMY PAGE 55 appeared in concert solo work under the direction of Prince Klan Kassie of Persia. Miss Hyde has been very successful as a teacher of the violin. Ernest W. Nichols For ten years has been the leader of the Weber Academy band and orchestra, during which time some of Ogden's best band leaders and musicians have received instruction at the Academy. He studied under Arthur Pryor, trombone and band master; under Stephen Porpori, clarinet; under Abram Levi, solo clarinetist of Sousa's band; he occupied first chair with Anthon Pedersen in the famous K. P. band. He was conductor of the Walla Walla Military band for seven years. He has been a teacher of band instruments for thirty years. Gladys Peterson Has been a pupil of Tracy Y. Cannon during the last few years. She has developed an unusual amount of musical talent and has developed into a pianist of ability. In 1913 she won the first prize for piano solo in the Weber Stake M. I. A. contest. She has been a student of the Weber Academy for the last four years. During that time she was always prominent in the musical activities of the school. Oge Jorgensen TEACHER OF VIOLINCELLO T. Earl Pardoe Mr. Pardoe first started his serious work in the field of play producing and dramatic literature when he |
