Show 9 Chapter III 1. Historical Record, Weber Stake Academy, pp. 3-5. The Weber Stake Board of Education was organized September 19, 1888. The following Brethren compose the Board of Directors: L. W. Shurtliff, C. F. Middleton, N. C. Flygare, Joseph Stanford, Louis F. Moench, Robert McQuarrie, Thomas J. Stevens, and David McKay. L. W. Shurtliff, President; Joseph Stanford, Secretary; and Robert McQuarrie, Treasurer. The Second Ward Meeting House has been engaged at a rental of $300 per year. The desks, seats, globes, maps, charts, in fact all appliances necessary to open up the school in the highest classes have been purchased, and are ready for use; and we are only awaiting the arrival home of Prof. L. F. Moench from his mission, whom we expect to engage as principal. The Bishops will please cooperate with the Board of Education by appointing a committee in their several wards to canvass for subscriptions. Members of the Board will, as opportunity offers, visit and lecture on the subject of the Stake Academy. Due notice will be given of the time of opening, the names of those composing the faculty, and the terms of tuition. On behalf of the Board of Education of the Weber Stake of Zion, Yours very truly, Joseoh Stanford, Secretary1 Joseph Stamford sent the following report of progress to the General Board of Education of the Church as requested: Elder George Reynolds, Secretar General Board of Education Salt Lake City Dear Brother: President Shurtliff has instructed me to state that the Presidency and High Council of the Weber Stake of Zion, at a meeting held in Ogden, September 10, 1888, organized a Board of Education for this Stake of Zion, composed of eight members. These directors met subsequently on the 19th and selected their officers. The names of both directors and officers I enclose. Since this meeting a. committee has been negotiating for rental of a building, and have also ordered seats, desks, maps, charts, and other appliances, sufficient to accommodate about |
