Weber Stake Academy first opened its doors for instruction at the LDS Second Ward Meeting House on the corner of 26th Street and Grant Avenue on January 7, 1889. The academy's two teachers, Louis F. Moench and Edwin Cutler, welcomed nearly one hundred students on the first day, and, by the end of its first term, 195 students in all had registered for the school. This monograph depicts the role the LDS church and its leaders played in founding the school, the background of its first educators and administrators and the financial challenges they confronted in operating the school from 1889 through 1894. Letters of appreciation for Louis F. Moench and a bibliography of primary sources are also provided. |

Isgreen introduced himself to the school in a few fitting remarks. Apostle Lorenzo Snow was the last speaker and suggested that if parents would expend all their means except for sustenance upon the educational system they would never regret it, and if the stake would answer liberally to the liquidation of the debt, incidental to the magnificant structure, the members of the board would certainly derive the greater satisfaction and many of those might sleep better who have accepted temporary responsibilities. Anthem, Choir Rock of Ages. Benediction by Nils C. Flygare. The invited guests, numbering about one hundred thirty repaired to the Fifth Ward Institute at 1 P. M. and partook of a sumptuous repast prepared and served under the direction and expense of the ward. The long table presented a beautiful and tempting picture loaded as it was with everything that would gratify the most fastidious taste. After grace was pronounced by Apostle Snow the viands were served, while the orchestral strains of music under the direction of Professor Squire Coop, added other additional features of the occasion.1 DEDICATION OF THE WEBER STAKE ACADEMY Ogden, August 18, 1892 Professor L.
