Show 40 WEBER ACADEMY Latin a.The principles of Latin grammar and syntax are taught, and the student masters a vocabulary sufficient to enable him to commence the reading of Caesar. Daily drill is given on the verb and noun forms. Constant practice in translating from Latin into English and from English into Latin. Potter's Elementary Course. History a.Ancient history, the history of Greece and the history of Rome will be considered in this course. Frequent written reports on supplementary reading assigned by the teacher will be required. History b.This course is designed to follow history a, and will cover mediaeval and modern history. Reports and papers on supplementary reading will be required. WEBER ACADEMY 41 History c.The course will comprise an adequate treatment of national history, preceded by a review of the influence that aided in the discovery of America, the period of discovery and exploration, 1485-1509; the colonial period, 1606-1763; institutional life in the colonies; the American Revolution, the confederation, 1781-1789, to the present time. It will include the Federal Union, Democratic-Republican supremacy, 1801-1815; industrial and intellectual development, 1815-1850; slavery and state rights, the Civil war and reconstruction. Some of the present needs of our government wil be considered, with a View of causing students to become interested in our national development. Five hours per week during the second semester. COMMERCE. Alva Hansen. Gertrude Earl. Penmanship.The object of this course is to teach rapid, easily-executed business writing. In the beginning stages of the work stress is laid on good position, muscular relaxation, correct and comfort-able pen-holding, and muscular movement. Straight lines and ovals are made at first; soon these movements are applied to the letters. During the second semester stress is laid on sentence and page work. Good writing is easily written and easily read. Five hours per week throughout the year. |
