Show 54 WEBER ACADEMY PREPARATORY COURSE. Ida A. Shurtliff. This department has been instituted at the Academy, not to take the place of the eighth grade in the public school, but rather to give to those young men and women who are beyond the public school age, and who are not yet prepared to do high school work, an opportunity to prepare themselves for higher studies in the Academy. No pupil under sixteen years of age will be admitted to the department. EnglishA careful study of the fundamental principles of grammar, sentence analysis as presented by Reed and Kellog, simple composition work with emphasis upon the mechanics of writing, special exercises in spelling, and practice in reading easy classics from an interpretative standpoint constitute the work of the course. Five recitations per week throughout the year. ArithmeticStandard Arithmetic. Milne Completed. Wentworth's High School Arithmetic for supplementary work. Five recitations per week throughout the year. Geography Tarr and McMurry's Complete Geography, with special reference to Utah and Weber County. Five recitations per week throughout the year. HistoryThomas' History of the United States. Five recitations per week throughout the year. In addition to the above, the girls of the class will take Domestic Science and the Boys' Manual Training.
