Show 46 WEBER COLLEGE - OGDEN, UTAH Students of this division are not preparing for higher degrees. They pursue a terminal course and at the completion of this work receive a Certificate of Completion in the field wherein their specific requirements have been met. These requirements may not satisfy the entrance requirements of the higher institutions of the state. Unmatriculated Students for Terminal Curricula All students registered in the Terminal Division are classified as matriculated students since eighteen years of age is the requirement for entrance. Selective Admission to Trades and Distributive Education A student is admitted to the Trades and to the Distributive Education courses on a selective basis. The school reserves the right to reject any applicant who does not propose to use the training for entry into employment, or who is not occupationally qualified, or who cannot profit by the training. To enroll in these courses the student must receive the approval of the instructor and the coordinator concerned. If the class is filled at the time application is made, the applicant for enrollment will be placed on the waiting list and will be notified when there is a vacancy for which he might qualify. A general course of Industrial Education is offered in General Trades. Applicants for metal trades courses who have had no previous metal working experience are advised to enter this course. Placement in a chosen field will be made from this class if an applicant's work proves to be satisfactory. Entry Time In order to be admitted to Weber College in any of the above classifications, a student must be of good moral character. A student who has been dropped from any high school or college on account of poor scholarship, or unsatisfactory conduct, or who is on probation at another institution may not register at Weber College without first appealing to the Standards Committee for entrance. This committee will be guided by the recommendation of the institution from which such a student transfers. There is no certain period when an entire class in the Trades is graduated and another group is started. Students may enter a class at any time during the school year when there is a vacancy. These vacancies occur when students complete their units of training or are placed on a job. Those on the waiting list will be notified when there are opportunities to enter the class. A student must have his high school credits on file in the Registrar's Office by August 15, 1941. A student who has taken college work previous to his entrance to Weber College must file his credits from all other institutions attended. Numbering of Courses Courses numbered from 1 to 49 inclusive allow college preparatory credit. Courses numbered 50 and above allow terminal credit. Terminal courses are offered for junior college credit only and are accepted by Weber College toward graduation of the terminal student. These courses may not be accepted at full value by the higher institutions of learning. WEBER COLLEGE - OGDEN, UTAH 47 Classification of Students A student with less than forty quarter hours' credit at the beginning of the school year or a student who is registered in any regular course in the first year of the Terminal Division is classified as a Freshman. A student with more than forty quarter hours' credit or a student who has completed a regular freshman course in the Terminal Division is classified as a Sophomore. A student who is carrying less than ten quarter hours of work is classified as a Special Student. Pre-Registration During each quarter there is a period of pre-registration for the following quarter. Pre-registration is a conference method inaugurated to avoid the problems attendant upon mass registration, and to insure opportunity for giving individual attention to the program of each student. For the year 1941-1942, pre-registration dates are as follows: Autumn Quarter August 25 September 11 Winter Quarter November 12 November 28 Spring Quarter February 18 March 6 All students are expected to complete their registration, including payment of required fees, before the final registration day of each quarter. A student intending to transfer to an institution of higher learning at the completion of his course in Weber College should consult the catalogue of such institution in order to acquaint himself with the requirements of the school to which he plans to transfer. Before a student registers at Weber College, he should carefully study the catalogue. If the information in the catalogue is not clear, he should come to the College and have a personal conference. If it is impossible to make a personal call he should write to the Registrar's Office for specific information. A student should request his high school principal to forward a copy of his credits to the Registrar's Office. If he transfers from another college, he should see that a transcript of his college credits is on file. All high school or college credits must be on file in the Registrar's Office by August 15, 1941. Appointments for the early periods of pre-registration are particularly advisable for those students who are uncertain as to the major fields they intend to follow and for those who intend to transfer to institutions outside the state. After August 1, 1941, college authorities are available to assist students with registration problems. Normal Registration: Fifteen quarter hours, exclusive of Physical Education, is the normal registration for any one quarter. Freshman Orientation Day. On Friday, September 12, 1941, a Freshman Orientation Day will be held at Weber College. The morning will be devoted to a mass assembly where the incoming new students will be greeted by the sophomores, student officers, and faculty; the afternoon will be devoted to final registration. |
