Show 98 WEBER COLLEGE - OGDEN, UTAH Carpentry Type A Lorenzo Edward Peterson This course is planned to prepare young men to become apprentice carpenters and mill workers. Shop Practice. A course covering such units of work as: forms, framing, doors and sills, roof framing, timber framing, exterior finish, construction forming, interior finish, building and setting stairs, concrete work, cabinet work, mill work, building hardware, woods, tools, equipment, and power hand tools. The training is carried on in the shop and on actual field construction work. Eight hours terminal credit. Autumn, Winter, Spring. L. Peterson Trade Technical. A course covering the technical phases of shop practice and fundamental information necessary to do the practical work. Five hours terminal credit. Autumn, Winter, Spring. L. Peterson Trade Related. A course including the related information needed by the learner to become a competent workman. The information is included in the following subjects: Drafting Problems, Internal Combustion Engines, Labor Problems, Physical Education, Vocational Orientation, and Vocational Science. Students deviating from these electives are invited to consult with the Dean of Instruction. Staff Commercial Art Type A Farrell R. Collett This course is designed to prepare students to enter the field of commercial art and commercial advertising in its various phases. Orientation (Vocational Orientation), Physical Education 41, and two selected activities are required of all freshmen trade students. Shop Practice. A course including drawing with pencil, charcoal, and pen and ink; newspaper advertising layout; screen process printing; posters; jacket design; color; sign writing; package design; color; illustration; cartooning; and outdoor advertising. A student is allowed to specialize in one of the above fields in which he can show special ability, or he may follow the entire course covering the entire field. The course is of two-years' duration. Five laboratory periods a week. Five hours terminal credit. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Collett Trade Technical. A course covering the technical phases of the art laboratory class, and containing fundamental information necessary for practical work. Meets seven hours a week. Five hours terminal credit. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Collett Trade Related. Supplementary information for the art laboratory and trade technical classes, covering trends, new developments, and related information. Meets daily. Collett WEBER COLLEGE - OGDEN, UTAH 99 General Trades Type B Edward Christian Larsen Leslie Lyman Price Parley Wendell Burrows This course is designed to offer training in fundamental units of machine shop, welding, aircraft mechanics, and auto mechanics. This course is also valuable to students who have not yet decided upon their vocational choice. Experiences typical of the trade are provided in the various fields from which the student may choose. This allows them to make proper vocational adjustments. In cases where a student has applied for entrance into one of the major fields of the vocational department in which no vacancy exists at the time, the student will be advised to enter the General Trades course and await his turn for placement into the specific trade he desires. Vocational Orientation, Physical Education 41, and two selected activities are required in the freshman year. Shop Practice I. A course devoted to shop work which consists of elementary sheet metal including lay-out and light metal construction; elementary welding, including both the arc and acetylene. Two hours daily. A course devoted to shop work in machine shop, including floor and bench work; lathe, drill press, and power cutting; heat treating and forge work. Two hours daily. Three hours terminal credit. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Larsen Shop Practice III. A course devoted to shop work in elementary aircraft engine mechanics; aircraft fuselage assembly; aircraft electricity. Two hours daily. Three hours terminal credit. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Price Shop Practice IV. A course devoted to shop work in elementary auto mechanics; auto body repair and painting; and auto electricity. A course in the technical phase of shop practice explaining the how and why of all operations given in connection with Shop Practice I, II, III, IV. One hour daily. Four hours terminal credit. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Larsen Trade Related. A course including the necessary information needed by an apprentice in entering industry and becoming a first class journey man. The work includes the necessary mathematics, human relations problems, consumer understanding, labor and economic problems, safety and health instruction. Meets daily.
