A continuation of Physics 5, including a study of magnetism, electricity, and radiation. Prerequisite: Mathematics 3. Four lectures and one laboratory period a week. Five quarter hours. Spring. Osmond 10. Physics Survey. A general course in physics designed to give the student untrained in mathematics the advantages that come from an ability to appreciate and interpret the varied physical phenomena of every day experience. This purpose is accomplished largely through demonstration and visual instruction. Five quarter hours. Autumn, Spring. Osmond 14. General Astronomy. A course treating the physics of heavenly bodies: constellations, planets, satellites, etc. Special stress is placed on the earth, sun, and moon as astronomical bodies. Five quarter hours. Autumn. Osmond 21. Photography. A practical course treating the camera, lens, properties of photographic emulsions, the mixing and use of developers, the uses of various positive and negative materials, sensitometry, ortho-chromatics, the making of lantern slides and enlargements, general dark room practices, and the art of photography. Practical experience may be obtained by taking pictures for reproduction in the Acorn. Three lectures and one laboratory period a week. Four quarter hours. Autumn. (May not be given 1941-1942.) Elementary Human Physiology and Anatomy. A course designed to give the student a practical working knowledge of the structure and function of the normal human body as the essential basis for the intelligent and safe practice of nursing. A study of the formation of the United States Constitution and national government, political party organization and operation, and nature and functions of the executive, legislative, and judicial departments. Special emphasis is placed upon current problems of governmental functions, operation, and citizenship. Five quarter hours. Autumn. C. H. Anderson 3. State Government. A study in which consideration is given the constitutional basis of state government, the functions and operation of the state executive, legislative, and judicial departments. Particular emphasis is placed on current principles and problems of government as applied to citizenship, with special reference to Utah. Three quarter hours. Winter. C. H. Anderson 4. Municipal Government. A study of the constitutional basis of and growth of cities; the place of cities in the governmental system, functions and legal aspects of city government, municipal voters and elections. A study of the nervous, muscular, and glandular machinery of the organism in relation to behavior; laws and principles that can be induced; reflexes, emotions, learning, motives, personality, behavior and its control. A study of the principles of psychology as applied to the learning process. Recommended for all students intending to teach in secondary schools. Psychology for Nurses. A study of the principles of psychology as applied to the nursing profession. Three quarter hours. Winter. Benson 9. Child Psychology. A course in child psychology devoted to a study of the origins of child behavior, the processes by which he learns, his organic and fundamental development, the diagnosis and treatment of behavior problems and personality development.
