CURRICULUM Aware of the educational needs of its students and the surrounding community, Weber College strives to maintain a flexible curriculum composed of in-class studies and out-of-class activities. IN CLASS STUDIES Departments of instruction at Weber College are grouped under ;seven major divisions, as follows: The Division of Business and Economics. Business, Economics, Secretarial Training. The Division of Humanities. General Education, Art, English Language, Literature, and Speech; Foreign Languages, Music. The Division of Life Sciences. General Education, Bacteriology, Biology, Agriculture and Farm Mechanics, Botany and Forestry, Home Economics, Nursing Education, Physiology and Zoology. The Division of Mathematics and Physical Sciences. General Education, Chemistry, Geology and Geography, Mathematics, Engineering, Architecture, Photography, Physics, Architectural and Engineering Technology. 'The Division of Physical Education. Health Education, Physical Education, Recreation. The Division of Social Sciences. General Education, Anthropology, History and Political Science, Orientation, Philosophy, Psychology and Education, Sociology. The Division of Technical Education. Auto Body Reconditioning, Automotive Service and Repair; Carpentry, Joinery and Millwork; Commercial Art, Cosmetology, Diesel Mechanics, Industrial Arts, Machine Shop, Maintenance Mechanics, Refrigeration, Watchmaking, Welding. OUT OF CLASS ACTIVITIES Participation in extra-curricular activities provides students with experiences in the democratic processes. Wholesome activities in cultural pursuits help enrich the lives of the participants, personally and socially. Working and playing with others in endeavors that are interesting and purposeful contribute to the improvement of character and personality. Student Government All members of the student body are encouraged to take part in the affairs of student government. Such participation enables students to gain an understanding of the democratic processes and opporunities for the development of character, leadership, social responsibility, and good citizenship. Student government is organized into four divisions: 1. Associated Students of Weber College, Sophomore Class, Freshman Class. 2. Associated Men Students, Associated Women Students. 3. Board of Control. 4. Student committees, councils, and clubs. These organizations offer experiences in voting, in running for office, in holding elective and appointive offices, and in representing campus organizations and functions in various student-body activities. Department-Sponsored Activities Many student activities are planned and sponsored by instructional departments of the college, as follows: The Departments of Art, Business, and Photography. Student publications. The Department of English Language, Literature and Speech. Student publications, debating, extempore and impromptu speaking, oratory, interpretative speech, drama, and radio. The Department of Music. Opera, oratorio, choir, and ensemble singing; orchestra, band, and choral and instrumental activities. The Department of Physical Education. Intramurals and intercollegiate football, basketball, swimming, wrestling, boxing, skiing, tennis, track, and field sports are designed |
