This course deals with the principles and methods employed in the functioning of business enterprises-investment of capital funds; determination of incomes, dividends and surplus; insolvency, receivership, and reorganization. Spring Quarter. Five credit hours. Economics 4- Economic History of the United States. The evolution of industrial society in the United States from the period of colonial settlement down to the present. Population, immigration, natural resources, public lands, transportation and communication, extractive and manufacturing industries, markets, commerce, financial institutions, labor, government finance and tariff, are the topics covered. Autumn Quarter. Five credit hours. Economics 5. Labor Problems. The history of labor and the evolution of the wage system. The topics covered are the factory systems, the labor unions, employers' associations, lockouts, strikes, labor legislation, et cetera. Winter Quarter. Five credit hours. Economics 6. Public Finance. This course treats the various kinds of public revenues and expenditures and the fiscal principles which govern them. Public credit, public debt, methods of borrowing, and the budget are also considered. Spring Quarter. Five credit hours. weber college 55 BUSINESS Business 1. Commerce. The topics covered are (1) the commerce and commercial industries of the leading countries of the world; (2) the trades routes; (3) the influence of natural environment, and (4) the development of resources. Autumn Quarter. Five credit hours. Business 2. Advertising. This course is designed for two classes of students, namely: those who intend to enter business and those who intend to take up advertising as a profession. Prerequisite: Economics 1, 2. Winter Quarter. Five credit hours. Business 3. Salesmanship. A practical treatment of the subject is given, with emphasis on the psychological aspects. Prerequisite: Economics 1, 2. Spring Quarter. Five credit hours. Business 4- Marketing. This course covers a detailed treatment of the functions, organizations created to perform these functions, and the cost of marketing economic goods. Prerequisite: Economics 1, 2. Autumn Quarter. Five credit hours. Business 5. Insurance. A course dealing with insurance institutions and various kinds of property and life insurance.
