Show 50 COLLEGE THE DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC Professor Manning Miss Fisher Mr. Oborn 1. Solfeggio. Advanced course of sight singing and theory introducing melody writing and elementary harmony. Designed to better equip normal students who have not had sufficient music training. Daily. Winter quarter. Two credit hours. Text: Viehl's "Graded Lessons in Sight Singing." 2. Public School Music. It is the purpose of this course to acquaint normal students with the scope of public school music. Rote singing, ear training, monotones, music appreciation, folk dancing, will be studied. Prerequisite, sight singing. Spring quarter. Two credit hours. 3. History of Music. Prerequisite: Sight reading or a year's private study on voice or instrument. This course covers the development music down to Bach, and lives of composers down to our present time. Twice a week. Autumn Winter and Spring quarters. Four credit hours Professor Manning. 4. Elementary Harmony. Prerequisite: Sight reading or a year's study of instrument. This course consists of a study of scales and chords and analysis of easy compositions. Three hours a week. Autumn, Winter and Spring quarters. Six credit hours. Mr. Oborn. WEBER COLLEGE 51 CHORUS WORK Men's Glee Club. Only a limited number of voices. Practice two hours a week. Two credit hours. Professor Manning. 2. Ladies' Chorus. Open to all ladies with good voices. Practice two hours a week. Two credit hours. Professor Manning. 3. Choral Society. Ensemble of both men and women of the college. One big and several small works will be studied and presented. Practice one hour a week. One credit hour. Professor Manning. PRIVATE STUDY Voice 1. This work consists of teaching proper breathing, and pronunciation according to the method of the old Italian masters. Faults of tone production are corrected and proper habits established. Scales, arpeggios, easy songs from standard composers will be studied. Autumn, Winter and Spring quarters. One lesson a week, with six nine hours practice. Six credit hours. Professor Manning. 2. Prerequisite: Voice 1. A careful study of "Belcento" selections from oratorios and operas. Autumn quarter. One lesson a week, nine hours practice. Two credit hours. Professor Manning. 3 and 4. Opera production. Students will be required to learn and present scenes from one or more operas, and one light opera in its entirety. One or two lessons a week. Twelve hours prac-tice.
