Show 38 WEBER COLLEGE - OGDEN, UTAH COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES Weber College cooperates with the community in developing educational and cultural programs by offering a community concert series, a lecture series, a community theatre, miscellaneous entertainments; a community service bureau, and a community physical education program. The Associated Alumni of Weber College assists in promoting all interests of the College. Community Concerts. In 1939, Weber College joined with the Ogden Community Concert Association to bring to the community a GREATER CONCERT SERIES. This connection permits Weber College students to enjoy community concert attractions as well as Weber College contributions from the concert stage. The combined course consists of programs by dramatic artists, instrumental soloists and symphony orchestras, Metropolitan Opera singers and choral groups, solo dancers and ballet theatres. Lecture Series. The Weber College Lecture Series organized in 1944 is designed to keep Weber College students abreast of current world happenings, and to bring to the campus master minds in the arts and sciences. Patrons of the College are permitted to purchase season tickets at a nominal fee to attend this series of six or more outstanding attractions each season. Community Theatre. To further round out the cultural program of Weber College students, the College, in 1944, combined with the Little Theatre movement of the community to bring to the campus a series of outstanding dramatic productions. Ogden citizens may attend these performances by purchasing season tickets. (See p. 36.) Miscellaneous Entertainments. To add to the enjoyment of Weber College students a limited number of commercial entertainments in the nature of magician shows, light musical comedies, moving pictures, and travelogs are presented during Assembly periods and in the evenings. The Weber College Community Service Bureau was organized to provide programs of merit to civic and church organisations of the Weber College area, and to give development to talented students within the College student body. The community is encouraged through College publicity to request programs utilizing students who are trained in speech, English, and music. The Community Physical Education Program attempts to promote recreation and to educate people of the community in physical skills and attitudes toward physical activities that are beneficial to maintaining their mental and physical health. An average of over one hundred people attend this program each day of the year. Classes, tournaments, leagues, free plays, clubs and mixed recreation are offered to members of the gymnasium. The Associated Alumni of Weber College promotes the interests of the College and provides social activity for the Weber College Alumni. The Alumni has been helpful in securing funds with which to purchase property on the Weber College block. The association is organized with a president, two vice presidents, a treasurer, a secretary, and a board of directors. This board consists of the officers of the preceding year and of twelve regular members elected by the association. During the school year 1944-45, the following committee organization was effected: Project Committee, Membership Committee, Program Committee, Publicity Committee, and Legislative Committee.
