CIVILIAN PILOT TRAINING PROGRAM The Civilian Pilot Training Program consists of Civil Aeronautics Ground Instruction and Flight Training aimed to qualify the trainee to secure a private pilot license. Shop Practice 4 hours daily Trade Technical 1 hour daily Trade Related 1 hour daily AUTO MECHANICS Auto Body Reconditioning The course in auto body reconditioning provides adequate training and experience in all phases of metal finishing and metal preparation, including paint work, in order to produce competent apprentices. One year of specialized pre-apprenticeship training is given. Shop Practice 4 hours daily Trade Technical - 1 hour daily Trade Related and Electives 1 hour daily Auto Service and Repair The course in auto service and repair offers training in the elementary and advanced phases of the auto service work including special units in motor tuning-up, auto electrics, heavy duty automotive equipment, and advanced motor work. The course aims to develop competent automobile repair apprentices. Two years of specialized pre-apprenticeship training are offered. Shop Practice 4 hours daily Trade Technical 1 hour daily Trade Related and Electives 1 hour daily CARPENTRY The course in carpentry is planned for the training of competent skilled apprentices, well-qualified to perform the various jobs in the trade of carpentry through a study of the most efficient and modern methods of the trades. Graduates of this course are qualified to enter carpentry work on an advanced apprenticeship level. Two years of specialized pre-apprenticeship training are offered. Training is offered in illustrating, advertising, cartooning, packaging, designing, poster work, and decoration. A student may elect a field of specialization in the second year. All media are used in the training program which are found in modern practices. Two years of specialized training are offered, and a student enters industry on an advanced apprentice level. Experience is provided in floor work, bench work, and machine operation. A student graduating enters the trade on an advanced apprenticeship level. Two years of specialized pre-apprenticeship training are offered. Shop Practice 4 hours daily Trade Technical 1 hour daily Trade Related and Electives 1 hour daily POWER SEWING MACHINE OPERATION The course in power sewing machine operation is designed primarily to train a student for_ the garment-making industry. A student selected is instructed in the care and operation, and methods of production required by the garment industries of Ogden City. The successful completion of the work qualifies a student to become an operator in the garment-making industry. The training period for the work is approximately three months. Laboratory Practice and Trade Technical 4 hours daily WELDING This course in welding is designed to qualify students as acetylene and arc welder apprentices. The course provides practice on over-head welding, horizontal welding, and vertical welding. One year of special pre-apprenticeship training is offered. Shop Practice 3 hours daily Trade Technical 1 hour daily Electives 2 hours daily IN-PLANT TRAINING Courses in in-plant training may be set up for training in any plant on the job. These courses are designed to use the special plant equipment not available in the school and to allow the worker to continue production while training. SUPERVISORY PERSONNEL DEVELOPMENT Courses in supervisory personnel development are designed to teach the supervisor how to instruct his worker in the management of men and to increase the efficiency of top management. Training may be had in how to teach a man to do a job, in problems of handling men, and in principles of organization and administrative management. UNIT TRADE TRAINING These unit trade training courses are designed to meet the immediate needs of the war industries of this area. They vary in length from as little as ten hours in the case of supervisors' training to as high as a thousand hours as in the case of radio. In each course specialized shop practice is given, also appropriate technical theory. These courses include aircraft engine overhaul, aircraft mechanics, arc and acetylene welding, auto body repair, auto mechanics, carpentry, electronics, machine shop, sheet metal, and others. |
