Show MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY HISTORY April 2008 Are you anticipating new arrivals at your address? You could be acting as host or godparent to more than 31 billion new arrivals this summer. The Pioneer Post for April told us that we, individually, can provide conditions favorable to producing that many mosquitoes in just six generations from one mosquito. In a good weather year 15 generations can occur from that one mosquito. The average mosquito lays 100 eggs every 10 days, during which time the egg hatches and becomes an adult. So if you don't enjoy these abundant guests, (and possibly West Nile Virus), you should check your property for any standing water, including that in old tires. Your neighbors, and the whole community will thank you. Residents were also reminded of preventative steps for lowering damage from earthquakes, in the same issue of the newsletter. FEMA suggestions on securing objects in the home and for family drills on how to react in the event of an earthquake were given. A dumpster was located at both the Marriott and Slaterville Parks from April 18 through April 20, sponsored by the City and Waste Management as part of the city's garbage contract. Residents were able to use these dumpsters at no cost to dispose of yard waste. At the April 17, 2008, City Council meeting, business licenses were requested for: Pampered Pets, 2824 W. Pioneer Road, pet grooming. Painted Pony Home Services, 2960 W. Pioneer Road, home staging. Bob"s Auto Repair, 1267 South 1850 West, auto service. Greenhouse Grasses, 337 North 1900 West, greenhouse. Green Barn Gardens, 151 South 2250 West, garden seeds. Operation Happy Kids, 1920 West 250 North, #16, child care. Pampered Pets and Painted Pony Home Service were sent back to the Planning Commission for further action. The other business licenses were approved. The Deru Minor Subdivision's request for an easement for a sewer line on City property to connect with the Mill Creek Subdivision sewer line was discussed. It was approved with the stipulation that the line be kept on Deru property as much as possible, and that a written statement showing the location of the line on city property be sent by the engineer. The tentative budget for the Pioneer Special District FY 2008-09 was discussed. The money is collected from new subdivisions in the district, with the operation of the secondary water system the main expense. The council voted to adopt the budget, with a public hearing set for May 15, 2008, on the final budget. The proposed amended budget for FY 2007-08 was discussed after Bill Morris explained the adjustments proposed. The council voted to review the proposed amendments and the FY 2007-08 budget with a public hearing set for the next meeting. The council unanimously voted for the adoption of the tentative FY 2008-09 budget after discussion, with a public hearing set for the next council meeting. Mr. Morris thanked Mayor Keith Butler for his diligent work on the budget. Two RAMP grants have been allocated to the city. One is for $5,000.00, based upon population. The second grant in the amount of $166,000.00 is for a new park bowery. Resolution 2008-B for approval of two Interlocal Agreements with Weber County regarding the 2008 RAMP funds was passed by the council. |
