Show MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY HISTORY JULY 1999 (and certain applicable events prior thereto) This record constitutes a month-to-month historical account of the affairs of Marriott-Slaterville City. This history shall, for the most part, focus on major events of the city occurring after the date that the city's Articles of Incorporation were certified by the Lieutenant Governor of the State of Utah, making the city officially incorporated at 12:01 a.m., Thursday, July 1, 1999. Because the future is built on the foundation of history, mention is also made of earlier events in our community, understanding that the history of the community began more than 150 years ago. Also noteworthy to preserve in this history is mention of the immense work that went into the formation of Marriott-Slaterville City. Notwithstanding this written history, there are many personal accounts, new articles, agendas, minutes, and other documents that bear record of the formation of Marriott-Slaterville City. Many of these documents have been gathered by city officials and filed with the City Recorder's Office to be managed by the City Historian, Elna Lucas. I, Bill Morris, City Recorder, have compiled this historical account from memory of my experience with township and the incorporation efforts, from news articles, testimony from residents, and other information (with some assistance and editing by Duncan Torr Murray and others). At times, I may write this history in first person language. This is done intentionally to add interest and personality where appropriate. This record shall be submitted to the Mayor, Keith H. Butler, Council President H. Orvil Holley, and Elna Lucas, City Historian, for their review and input to make this history as accurate as possible. The characteristics of cooperation and independence inherent in our pioneer past have carried down through the years in our community. In more recent times, they have been displayed as residents have shown their desire to have input in community governance and planning. As far |
