Show 14 ACORN This is to be read by Men Only There are some fellows sticking around here that aren't sports enough even to make dates for class parties. Suck guys! When the classes in the past gave entertainments, it was very seldom that a single male member came alone. But now holy smoke! The habitual stags of the Senior Class were recently astounded by a strike a strike in which the Senior girls reminded the boys to be more gentlemanly and considerate. A boy is a rather poor excuse when he expects his lady friends to come and go unescorted on the nights of parties and dances. Somebody claims that in order to sleep well one must have warm feet. It looks as if a good many of the Weber boys need to warm up their feet for a different purpose. Surely, they don't lack the necessary amount of nerve. Well, get busy, fellows take the hint. Our idea of a standpatter is someone who studies the Civil War daily. Ex. School Notes David O. McKay's Talk Our school year was fittingly opened on the first Wednesday morning Devotional when David O. McKay gave an address to the Student Body. Brother McKay is an old friend of the Academy, being for a number of years principal of the school, and is now president of the Board of Education. He is loved and respected by everyone, and his visits here are greatly appreciated by the students. He gave a very inspiring talk on the "Standards of Weber." He said that besides the intellectual training we receive here at school, the more important training is the developing of men and women of character. He urged that we apply our religion and live clean and pure lives. Brother McKay's talk could not help but influence the students for good and make them resolve to live up to Weber's standards. W.W. Henderson We are pleased to hear that our last year's principal is an active member of his community. He is now living near Pocatello, Idaho, and the people there realized that they had in their midst a learned man, a good leader and a willing worker. Accordingly he was installed as one of the presidents of the Pocatello stake. Weber is still interested in Brother Henderson and his doings, and we wish him success in all of his undertakings. The sudden death of Sister Jessie Standing Manning, the wife of one of our faculty members on October 31st caused deep regret among our students. We express our deepest sympathy toward our dear friend and fellow-worker as well as toward all who of necessity feel the the pain of loss most keenly. May God soothe the hearts that are so sorely grieved. |
