Standard Front Page 12/4/2002 Stove fire leaves family homeless CLEARFIELD — A pan left on an unattended stove caused about $30,000 worth of damage to an apartment and has left a family without a home, said Clearfield Fire Deputy Chief Craig Whitesides. Firefighters were called to the Lakeview Apartments at 1780 S. 200 East around 9 p.m. Sunday night after residents noticed smoke coming out of the apartment. When fire crews arrived, flames were coming out of the windows, but crews were able to contain the fire to the one apartment, Whitesides said. Whitesides said there were no injuries reported from the fire. The woman and her two children, who resided in the apartment, had left it earlier to visit friends in another apartment. The American Red Cross was contacted to help the family. Clinton fire displaces family CLINTON - A Saturday I house fire has left a family m I homeless. Officials said a 2 p.m. blaze at the home of Vincent Marcusen on 950 North caused at least $50,000 in damage, making the home unlivable. Fire Chief Floyd Peterson I said the fire also killed six pets - three cats, a dog and two macaws. Peterson said the cause of the flamesremains under investigation. "When we first got the call, we were told that there was a possibility of one person unaccounted for but he was able to make it out OK," he said of a 15-year-old boy who was home at the time. The two parents and three boys were placed in a hotel for two nights by the Red Cross, but son-in-law Kurt Holfeltz said he's concerned about the family's future living arrangements. Holfeltz said the family's insurance is insufficient to cover rebuilding and temporary living arrangements. He is planning to open a charity account for the family at a local bank today.
