The Weber County Chapter of the Red Cross began in December 1915 when a small group of individuals gathered to begin organizing a chapter of the Red Cross. In 1962, the name was changed to the Bonneville chapter, and in 1969, the chapter merged with other chapters in Northern Utah to become the Northern Utah Chapter, with its headquarters located in Ogden, Utah. The scrapbooks range from 1940 to 2003 and highlight some of the important work of the Red Cross. The books include photographs, newspaper clippings, and other materials. |

Show THE OGDEN STANDARD-EXAMINER SATURDAY EVENING, MARCH 24, 1945 Patients Receive Gifts in Hurry The log book for the Red Cross canteen at the Union depot is filled these days with cryptic paragraphs of the military hospital trains that stop for a few minutes in the yards. None of the trains is ever passed up by the women of the canteen, nor is the gratitude of the injured men ever forgotten. Recently when one of the attendants said the boys on his car wanted “something to read about this beautiful country,” one of the canteen workers called the forest service, then drove up to get booklets on the intermountain forest and recreation areas. When she returned with the material, followed by co-workers laden with doughnuts and cakes, the men waved and threw kisses from their beds on the train. Another paragraph told of a hurried trip uptown to get candles to go on a birthday cake for one of the wounded men and still another told of the cheers the men gave the women who sent apples and oranges out to their cars. RECOGNITION ceremonies honored Red Cross workers above. Seated are new staff aides, left to right, Mesdames Neoma Frazier, Robert L. Peterson, Eddie Carr, Varney Kelley, and Orien Benton.
