Show Red Cross productive, rewarding As one of the many volunteers for the Bonneville Chapter of the American Red Cross, I have had the opportunity to observe first¬hand how this dedicated organi¬zation serves community needs in Weber, Morgan and north Da¬vis Counties. President Bush has recognized this great tradition of public ser¬vice by proclaiming March "Red Cross Month". Consider these services provid¬ed to the community: • Immediate relief to disaster victims. • First aid and CPR training. • Assistance to military person¬nel in emergencies. • Assistance with utility pay¬ments. All Red Cross assistance is a gift and no repayment is expec¬ted. All funding for Red Cross ac¬tivities comes from private and corporate gifts. The Red Cross is not government funded. Most Red Cross activities are accomplished through volunteer work. The Bonneville Chapter has only a small paid staff. New volunteers are being continually sought. Should a major disaster occur in the Weber-Morgan-north Da¬vis County area, I know the Red Cross response will be prompt and effective in relieving human suffering. My hat is off to the many peo¬ple who make the Red Cross the great and compassionate organi¬zation that it is! I encourage any¬one seeking a productive and rewarding experience to look into Red Cross volunteer work.
