Show © ROYAL RS Dies ECCLES on Cruise a9 SeSon eae Basa o oo s Royal Eccles Dies During Ocean Cruise Royal Eccles, retired Ogden attorney and businessman, died Tuesday aboard the liner Gripsholm as it passed through the Straits of Magellan at the southern tip of South America. The 78-year-old Ogdenite and Mrs. Eecles were on an ocean cruise, Mr. Eccles was born in Ogden on Dec. 9, 1884, a son of David and Bertha Marie Jensen Eccles. He lived in Ogden all his life. In his early life, Mr. Eccles was active in the Eccles. family companies. He had been an officer in the David Eccles Co., Oregon Lumber Co., Sumpter Valley Railroad Co., and several associated enterprises. | In 1930, he. sold his corporate Salt Lake City ennle He attended Ogden City ie. = jand graduated from the Univer=— sity of Michigan with a law degree in 1908. Surviving are the widow, the following son and daughters, Justin R. Eecles of Los Alamitos. Calif.; Mrs. Maren Hardy ~ of Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Robert (Cleone) E. Yeates and Mrs. Clifton B, (Myrelle) Thomas, both of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Fred -E. (Claire) Matthies of Ogden; two brothers, William Jack Ecgles: of ‘Hood River, Ore., and Homer G. * Eecles of Baywood Park, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Dean (Lila) Brimhall of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Flora E. Douglas of Calif.; and Mrs. Lon Hollywood, (Laura) FE. Romney of Washington, D.C. Also surviving are the following half brothers and half. sisters, Marriner S. Eccles of San Francisco, George S. Eccles of Salt Lake City, Spencer S. Eccles and Willard L. Eccles, both of Ogden;. Mrs. George D. (Marie) Caine of Logan; Mrs. S. J. (Jessie) Quinney of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Emma E, Jones and Mrs. Hugh T. (Ellen) Harrison, both of Pied- mont, Calif., and Mrs. Walter N. (Nora) Treadwell of Oakland, Calif., and 21 grandchildren, services and interment will be held in Ogden and will be -announced later by Lindquist & Sons. |
