This crew prepared and installed dishpan reflectors inside the tunnels and at other sites where work continued around the clock. This view of diversion tunnel Number 2 shows the invert and side wall sections nearly complete. The truck hauls 2-cubic-yard buckets to pour the concrete. Note the dishpan reflectors strung along the tunnel walls. |

Show "Driving trucks through these tunnels, there was a gas problem there, real bad at times. We usually could tell by looking at the lights in the tunnel. If they had a big blue ring around them, we would know the gas was getting pretty rough in there. But fortunately for the truck drivers, you would be driving through it and come out the other end. Usually if you got too much gas, that's when you would get sick when you came out into the fresh air. And they [took] you to the hospital."52 - Curley Frances "We were still in the tunnels and had to get concrete back in therefor the liners. They would set these great big rotating drums down on trucks that would back into the tunnels where they were pouring. Then it was up to me to get that batch of concrete up in the air... I would hook the cable with hooks onto this [concrete] agitator, and then they would move it back in the tunnel, just like on a skyhook. They brought it back when they emptied it, set it on the truck, unhooked it, and the truck took it back up so they could hook it from the outside [and] take it up to the concrete plant to refill it. Just a vicious circle. - Carl Merrill This crew prepared and installed dishpan reflectors inside the tunnels and at other sites where work continued around the clock.
