OCR Text	Show Company History The Utah Construction Company incorporated in Ogden, Utah, in 1900, with Thomas D. Dee as president and a principal stockholder, along with David Eccles, Edmund O. Wattis, Warren L. Wattis, William H. Wattis, and Marie D. Wattis. The new railroad-building company soon refashioned its skills into dam-building projects. In 1931 Utah Construction became a major partner in Six Companies, which built the $55 million Hoover Dam. By 1944 Utah Construction had acquired its first mine, and mining became a major enterprise, even as projects diversified to include residential, military, and commercial construction and spread to 16 countries on six continents. Yet building railroads and tunnels remained an intrinsic part of many domestic and international enterprises. In 1971 Utah Construction & Mining became Utah International, Inc., with projects in Peru, Korea, Australia, Japan, and the Congo. The company merged with General Electric in 1976, the largest merger of its type in United States history to that time. Utah International operated as an independent entity until its 1984 purchase by Broken Hill Proprietary, Ltd. (BHP).
