Show Utah Construction buildings stood near tracks in a number of small towns, including Montello, Nevada, where the company store faces the rails at far right. The stores not only sold goods to railroad workers but also supplied a vast ranch the company owned in northern Nevada and Idaho. Meanwhile so many construction opportunities beckoned in California that E. O. Wattis remained in San Francisco, which gradually became company headquarters. |
