Various Olivella biplicata marine shell beads. Most specimens probably were produced along the central California coast and subsequently traded across the Sierra Nevada Mountains, through present-day Nevada, and into Great Salt Lake region via the Humboldt River trade route. The presence of Olivella beads in early deposits at Danger and Hogup Caves indicate that eastern Great Basin Natives acquired trade items from the Pacific Coast as early as 5,000 B.C. |
