Title Winnowing Tray
Image Captions Twined winnowing tray made in the 1880s by a member of the Northwestern Shoshone band who resided in Washakie, northern Utah. The farming community of Washakie was named for the late nineteenth century Eastern Shoshone leader and established by the LDS Church in 1880 to be held in trust for the Northwestern Shoshone. Washakie thrived for some 60 years, but its population began to decline at the start of World War II, with better paying jobs being available outside of the region.
