Show 34 WEBER COLLEGE - OGDEN, UTAH WEBER COLLEGE - OGDEN, UTAH 35 The Associated Women Students is an organization which includes all women within the student body. The Associated Women Students is an organization within the general student body in which every co-ed automatically becomes a member when she enrolls in the College. It is the purpose of the Associated Women Students to develop among the women of Weber College such activities as will promote fellowship and democracy; to cooperate with the student body in all matters pertaining to the student life of the College; and to provide a medium through which the women students may express opinions on matters of interest to them, a medium through which the social standards of women will be made and kept high. The council consists of a president, vice president, secretary-treasurer, reporter, Women's Athletic Association president, Whip Club president, the vice president of the Sophomore Class, the vice president of the Freshman Class, a representative from the Whip Club, and a representative, a freshman and a sophomore, from each women's social club. Regular activities of the group include a tea given in honor of the freshman girls, a Get Acquainted Party at the opening of the year, the Mother's Tea, a dancing party each quarter, and a tea for the graduating sophomores. The organization also sponsors Charm Week each year. In the spring of 1939 an organization known as the Co-ed Counselors was instituted. This organization is composed of approximately forty sophomore girls who work under the direction of the officers of the Associated Women Students. The counselors are chosen in the spring of the year and their duties begin during the summer and continue the following school year. The purpose of this group is to assist freshmen girls to orient themselves to college life. The Associated Men Students includes all men within the student body. The Associated Men Students, concerned with fostering the interests of the men of the Weber College student body, was organized in the autumn of 1937. Every male member of the College automatically becomes affiliated with this organization when he becomes a member of the Associated Students of Weber College. Besides the regular officers, President, Vice President, and Secretary and Treasurer, five freshmen councilmen were elected to the governing body for the first time in 1941. The Inter-Club Council supervises and controls social club activities. An Inter-Club Council was organized in the winter quarter of 1937 for the purpose of supervising and controlling all social club activities. The members of this Council consist of a president, secretary, one freshman and one sophomore representative from each social club, the Dean of Women, and the Adviser of Men. The purposes of the Council are: (1) to create good will and cooperation among clubs; (2) to unify effort in promoting worth-while projects during the year; (3) to assist in organizing new social clubs with the aim of providing opportunity for membership for every student who desires to become affiliated with a social group in Weber College; (4) to regulate club activities, making sure they result in wholesome entertainment for their members and the student body rather than adverse criticism for the College; and (5) to regulate rushing, pledging, and initiations of social clubs. Student Government Weber College is a laboratory that provides experience in democratic living. The student body government of Weber College has as one of its major purposes the development of civic responsibility, leadership, and self-government on the part of the student. It is definitely planned to make the institution a laboratory that provides actual experience in democratic living. The Associated Students of Weber College is a self-governing organization including all students. The Associated Students of Weber College includes all registered students who have paid all fees prescribed by joint action of the State Board of Education and the Associated Students of Weber College. The privileges of membership in this organization consist of the right to vote in all elections under the control of the student body, the right to become a candidate for office within the rules and regulations governing those positions, and the right to such other privileges as may be determined by the Board of Control. The executive officers of the organization consist of a president, a vice president, a secretary, the sophomore class president, the freshman class president, two additional freshmen representatives, and a treasurer. The appointive officers consist of the staffs of the various authorized student body publications, manager of athletics, manager of dramatics, cheer leaders, and such other appointive officers as may be provided by the Board of Control. The association serves to promote the scholastic and social welfare of the College, to insure a spirit of harmony and cooperation, and to regulate student activities. It provides opportunity for democratic participation in a democratic student government. The Sophomore Class and the Freshman Class are the two class organizations within the student body. The Sophomore Class includes all men and women of sophomore standing. It is organized to promote class interests, interpret and preserve Weber traditions, initiate freshmen, and to assume leader ship in matters of social welfare. The Freshman Class includes all men and women of freshman standing. It is organized to carry on activities of a competitive nature designed for novitiates of Weber. Each class elects officers to the position of president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. During the spring quarter the freshman class selects a faculty adviser to direct the class activities for the sophomore year. During the autumn quarter the new freshman class selects an adviser to direct the class activities for the freshman year. |
